Only 3 points between 7th and 13th. We could theoretically go 12th if we lose and other teams win....

Well, we're definitely not winning...

Probably a frustrating draw. Best case scenario, Silva gets a hattrick and we steamroll them.

Not sure what we'll do if we lose this. We really need a run of good form here, otherwise we'll hope for a spring 2013 push that's reeeally unlikely...

GATTUSO: "WE NEED A CHANGE IN MENTALITY"

The boss on the eve of the Atalanta clash: "We need to start off on the right foot and control the game"

Image

Gennaro Gattuso previewed AC Milan's home game match to Atalanta with a press conference at Milanello today. The Rossoneri are ready to host the Bergamo side at San Siro on Saturday evening (kick-off at 6 pm) after the heavy defeat in Verona last week which led to the ongoing training retreat. A tight and important schedule awaits AC Milan as after Atalanta will play Inter in the TIM Cup quarterfinals derby before travelling to Florence for the last game of 2017 against Fiorentina. But, before thinking about the near future, the Red and Blacks have to get back to winning ways as coach Gattuso said addressing the media at the pre-match press conference this afternoon.

ON THE TRAINING RETREAT
"When we decided for the training retreat we thought we would stay here at Milanello until the game against Atalanta. This was the least we could do after the draw at Benevento and the 3-0 defeat in Verona. There were no players who disagreed with this decision. We stayed together for more than a few hours, it was nice to see the families, the wives. We also had dinner altogether. We worked and spent a few more hours on the pitch. This team's issue is not about how we work we need people to give something more. We need the more experienced players to do something more. As soon as we suffer the first difficulty the team disappears.

ON THE MATCH AGAINST VERONA
"I was not pleased because every time we give space to our opponents we give the feeling we can concede at any moments.

ON ATALANTA
"Atalanta play man marking across the whole pitch, we have to try to avoid losing the ball when building up the play. We need time to make the right play and the right choice. I want to see the same attitude we had in the first twenty minutes against Verona. It'll be a very physical match. They are a really strong team, they have quality players and play good football. We have to play with great self-sacrifice to win this game.

ON THE TEAM
"We haven't had any injury aside from Calhanoglu. We hope things continue like this and I can say physically we have made some improvements. We have to train our mentality. I have the feeling the team is not aware of the danger sometimes. When Verona scored the second goal the two full-backs were way too up the pitch, but this is my fault.

ON THE PLAYERS
"The players who have been here for a while need to help the new. Explain to them what it means to win a trophy. We have to help the new arrivals, that's what I used to do when I was playing. We need these footballers to play together because they have all the qualities we need. Sometimes it looks like we lack teamwork, we don't play as a team.

ON BONUCCI
"He's always the one to take full responsibility when things are not going well. He sets an example for all the others. I speak with him every day, He's a leader and one of the players who does everything to solve the problems we have.

THE RECIPE TO BOUNCE BACK
"A win is not enough, we had won two back-to-back games (before losing to Verona in the league). The more experienced players need to help the new arrivals. We need to be angrier. If we keep this attitude, we can win one or two games but then we would be back to square one.

ON THE MANAGEMENT
"When I speak with Fassone, Mirabelli and Han Li, we discuss what we can do to have this team show their potential. It's not true the management is not backing us.

ON SAN SIRO
"It's up to us not to make any mistake against Atalanta. The psychological aspect is really important: we need to start off on the right foot and control the game. I hope the fans won't protest and should we play a really bad game I hope they start protesting only after the final whistle".
