Galliani's role at Milan is protected by a contractual agreement with Fininvest that expires June 30, 2019. After August 31, 2016, he will therefore become a transfer market consultant to Fassone, who will make the final decisions regarding transfers. [CdS]

Galliani unlikely to work in Italian football after AC Milan sale

Adriano Galliani

With AC Milan being taken over by a Chinese consortium, it is unlikely that former vice-president Adriano Galliani will stay with Lega Serie A.

It was reported that former president Silvio Berlusconi would decide Galliani’s future, but with Berlusconi owning just 0.07 per cent of the club and the Chinese consortium looking to refresh things at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, Galliani is set to have a job elsewhere.

According to reports from Corriere della Sera, Galliani’s future role is still unclear, but it is certain that he won’t have a role in Italian football altogether, let alone AC Milan.

It is also claimed that the 72-year-old will most likely take up a post in Fininvest, the company owned by the Berlusconi family involved with the sale of Milan.

Galliani joined the Rossoneri at the same time as Berlusconi in 1986, overseeing five Champions League titles and eight Scudetti.

Not true. The remaining 0.07% is owned by other minor shareholders.

The last mercato has to be his worst.

25M and nearly no output. Also 3 year contract for Monty who soon will be on the bench at best.

Galliani clearly didnt work for the best of the club in recent years. Montys extra contract was pretty much a gift.

Galliani: 'Raiola expensive gatekeeper'

Milan CEO Adriano Galliani has learned not to make predictions and comments on Mino Raiola’s role in Gianluigi Donnarumma’s contract.

The Rossoneri host Lazio this evening, follow the action on our LIVEBLOG.

“It’s pointless setting objectives, we must do our best and take it one game at a time,” Galliani told Mediaset Premium.

“If you had asked me before the run of our first four games which would be the easiest, I would’ve said Udinese at home, but we lost. Football is strange and therefore I make no predictions!

“Jose Sosa had a problem with his back and therefore Jack Bonaventura plays. There is no philosophy behind this choice.

“Once we were accused of having a squad that was too old, now that we are too young.”

Galliani was asked about the situation around goalkeeper Donnarumma, who is represented by Paul Pogba’s agent Raiola.

“Raiola is a very expensive and able gatekeeper. Raiola is absolutely essential in the renewal of Donnarumma. Gigio is still 17 and doesn’t have a driver’s licence. He is an extraordinary lad off the field as well as on it.”

Raiola tends to have a very tense rapport with many clubs, but has known Galliani for decades and they often did business together.

So, after a series of lunch meetings, Roman Abramovich has agreed to back Antonio Conte with another big spending transfer window. But for Chelsea - and Conte - the question has to be...

What makes Abramovich so sure this January will be anything different from last summer? Or the previous January? Or, indeed, the previous summer?

It's not as if the Russian has been holding back. £120 million was spent last summer alone. So why, after three separate meetings at Cobham, can Conte be so sure of landing his targets this time around?

Just last week, Ezequiel Garay, the former Zenit St Petersburg defender, was the latest to admit he'd chosen Valencia ahead of Chelsea.

“[The offer] from Chelsea emerged a week before I completed the move to Valencia but Valencia had been my choice from the very first moment," the Argentine confessed. This, just days after the agent of Niklas Sule admitted Chelsea had made a €30 million offer to Hoffenheim for the young stopper.

We also learned last week that the reason Conte had not (or we should say could not have) recalled Andreas Christensen from his loan at Borussia Monchengladbach was that the option to do so doesn't blinkin' exist! That's right. A loan. A two-year loan. Was negotiated by Chelsea without ANY clause allowing them to recall the Dane.

You can see where we're going with this one...

Abramovich can add another million or two to his player bids. He can raise his offers to record levels. Make Chelsea the soft touch of the transfer market. But it's still no guarantee those at the pointy end of negotiations are going to land Conte's transfer targets.

You can appreciate Abramovich's loyalty to Marina Granovskaia and Michael Emenalo. But Chelsea's now regular last minute, scrambled deadline day deals isn't just costing the club talent and potential titles. It's now reached a stage where actually competing for a Champions League finish is getting beyond the club.

Yes, N'Golo Kante, one that Conte actually wanted, arrived. But that was thanks to a phone call from the Italian and a buyout clause inserted into the Frenchman's original Leicester City deal. There were no negotiations for Chelsea's handlers to navigate. It was simply meet this price and he's yours.

We're also now hearing from Kia Joorabchian, David Luiz's agent, that his deadline day move was driven largely from their end of the table.

When is the penny going to drop?

This column has discussed it before: Conte, during meetings with Chelsea last season, championed the qualities of Walter Sabatini, Roma's canny sports director, to his potential employers. Sabatini was ready to jump - and London was an attractive option. In the end, Conte was hired - but the front office remained untouched. And a repeat of the previous summer's market disaster was always on the cards.

Sabatini is now feeling happier in his job and talk of him moving on has faded. But there is another big Italian name, perhaps the biggest in terms of transfer market experience, about to find himself at a loose end before the New Year.

Adriano Galliani, 30 years CEO

Good luck Adriano
